All vulnerable
people and those over 65 years are advised to use a surgical mask when in
contact with other people.
This is the advice of Government health experts who also warn against the
misuse of gloves.
Many people are wearing rubber gloves but is it advisable?
Government health experts warn that rubber or latex gloves can give us a false
sense of security. If you touch a contaminated surface with gloves they become
contaminated. The danger is, with a false sense of security, you then touch
your face, which is dangerous, or something else (such as your steering wheel),
which then becomes contaminated.
According to experts the best way to stay safe is to wash your hands regularly
not by wearing gloves.
Most shops now supply a disinfectant, which also kills the virus on your hands,
or you could carry a bottle in your handbag/pocket to use if you touch any
surface used by other people such as credit card machines; glass screens; door
handles etc.
Masks can also become contaminated if they are not handled with care. Always wash
your hands before and after you put one on or take one off; don´t touch the
inside of the mask under any circumstances; do not wear your mask on your
forehead or around your neck where it might become contaminated; when the mask
is damp throw it away.
Two free masks per person are available with your medical card from the chemist
if you are over 65 years.
