The spokesperson for Agriculture in the Congress, Ascensión Carreño, has asked the Congress of Deputies to declare the caves and surroundings of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope, part of the Natural Patrimony of Humanity.
Carreño has declared that the geographic situation of the Murcia region “has facilitated the development of spaces of interest from the geological point of view.” Adding that “this initiative is very important both for Calasparra and the Murcia region.”
The proposal was presented at the Sanctuary on Monday. Ascensión Carreño was accompanied by Senator Severa González, deputies for the PP party in the Congress, Isabel Borrego and Javier Ruano, regional deputies José Soria, Jesús Cano and Juan Pagán and local councillors and members of the local PP including the President, Jesús Martínez Moreno, and spokesperson, María Marín.
Marín said: “the Sanctuary is one of the three most visited in Spain and is special because it is located in a grotto carved out of the rock and has natural surroundings of extraordinary beauty.”
The delegation later visited the Rice Cooperative of the Campo Virgin of the Esperanza and the Villa Vieja Cheese Factory.
