Pedro Sanchez, President of Spain, has just announced that he will probably ask Congress to approve an extension of the State of Alarm by two weeks, rather than a month.
Sanchez had been negotiating with opposition parties to gain support for a month´s extension until June 24. However, the centre right party, Ciudadanos, who supported the previous two week extension, have refused to support a one month´s extension, but will vote for an extension of two weeks.
Unless Sanchez can rally votes from other quarters it seems likely he will ask for a two week extension to the current State of Alarm ending on June 10.
Opposition right wing Partido Popular and extreme right wing, Vox, will vote against any extension.
