PARTIES UNITE TO OPPOSE EXPLOITATION UNDERGROUND WATER RESERVES

A motion presented by the ruling PSOE at the full Town Hall meeting last night opposing the extraction of water from the Sinclinal in Calasparra was passed unanimously.
According to the official bulletin, BORM, an application to exploit this underground well has been received from the Águilas and Mazarrón for irrigation over seven years. The application is for the extraction of 9.5 cubic metres of water annually.
According to the Mayor of Caalsparra, who noted that the well was the property of Calasparra, “water is not a business.”
The PSOE motion totally rejects the exploitation of the Sinclinal which it claims is “unnecessary given that there are sea water treatment plants at Águilas and Mazarrón which can serve the local farmers.
