The local business, Conservas Filiberto Martinez S.A. has donated two pallets of «tomates fritas» to Caritas.
The canning plant, famous for its tinned tomatoes and artichokes, is a family business of three generations in Calasparra and has always been ready to collaborate with local charities.
In an interview on Radio Calasparra, a volunteer for Caritas, said: «This is not the first donation they have made and we are enormously grateful for it. Every year we can count on their generosity and it is a relief especially as the food from the European Food Bank is less and less and the number of families we assist is more and more.»
Caritas currently assists 100 families in Calasparra and has 10 volunteers to carry out its activities.
A food collection is curently being organised by Caritas in the Merced Church. Donations may be made until December 21.
