Failure to wear a mask in public or to wear it incorrectly and any other activity which puts other people at risk of contagion in your home or in public could prove expensive as the Regional Government take steps to try and stop the spread of Covid-19 contagions.
Today, a system of fines and sanctions has been introduced for those who contravene hygiene and safety measures introduced by the Health Authority in their area to reduce the risk of Coronavirus.
Fines range from 100 to 3000 euros for the incorrect or failure to use a mask and the maximum of 600,000 euros for conduct which puts more than 100 people at risk of contagion.
The new system of fines classifies offences as minor, grave or very grave.
The failure to wear a mask or to wear it incorrectly carries a fine of 100 to 3,000 euros. Also included in minor offences are failing to respect limits on capacity (private or public) and the failure to implement hygiene measures and social distancing (private or public) when there is no risk of contagion or the risk affects less than 15 people; and failure to respect confinement measures imposed by the ruling Health Authority by those who have had contact with a positive case but have been confirmed as positive themselves.
Grave offences include failure to adhere to hygiene and prevention measures in any establishment, during any activity, in spaces or buildings, public or private; not respecting the capacity limits in establishments or during activities including organizing meetings or fiestas where crowds make it difficult to adopt hygiene and safety measures; and failure to comply with confinement and/or isolation imposed by the ruling Health Authority. Fines range from 3001 to 60,000 euros.
Fines of up to 600,000 euros are reserved for very grave offences for conduct which does not comply with general preventative measures and when this conduct poses a risk of contagion for more than 100 people; for activities expressly suspended; and failure to comply with the reiterated obligation for isolation at home by the ruling Health Authority.
Readers are reminded that wearing a mask is obligatory in the region of Murcia as soon as you step outside your home.
