The majority of Health Centres in the region, including Calasparra, are unable to continue adminstering flu jabs following the mass withdrawal of vaccine from the biggest supplying laboratory due to a “failure in quality control.”
The programme is unlikely to resume complete normality for at least two weeks.
Some 80% of the vaccine purchased by the region was provided by the company Novartis and withdrawn after “impurities” were found during quality control. However, a small stock of 27,000 doses from the laboratory, Sanofi, have been distributed to the larger health centres in Lorca and Cartegena.
Patients at the Health Centre in Calasparra seeking appointments for vaccinations have been turned away and told to return in November.
The Department of Health has issued an assurance that patients who have already been vaccinated are not at any risk and are protected against flu.
