The invasion of Ukraine has sent fuel prices through the roof and electricity prices are now an average of 544.98 euros per megawatt/hour to a maximum of 799 euros.
The Government has extended the reduction in IVA, taxes and standing charges but most households will be dreading their bills this month.
One of the biggest problems is that the price of electricity is linked to the price of gas and despite various pleas from Spain to separate the pricing of the two fuels the EU has so far refused.
However, in light of the meteoric rise in electricity prices EU leaders are meeting today to discuss measures to curb the rise in prices, including separating the price of gas from electricity.
In order to try and keep bills as low as possible try not to use electricity at peak times and, if you have to, keep consumption to a minimum.
Try and use all electric appliances out of peak times and use them less.
If you live alone maybe you can share “loads” in your washing machines with a neighbour and take it in turns.
Take your clothes out of the machine as soon as it is finished to avoid creasing and hang up anything you can to avoid ironing.
Switch off lights whenever possible and don´t keep appliances on standby.
Most electricity company supply an App to monitor your consumption so upload and use it.
Nexonr will keep readers in formed of any moves made by the government, the EU or electricity companies to reduce bills.
