Central Government is exploring legal ways of introducing a nationwide curfew in Spain in an attempt to curb spiraling contagions and reduce the death toll.
Following the very public and bitter disputes with the regional Government of Madrid, which culminated in central government over ruling regional government and introducing a State of Alarm with confinement and restrictions on movement in and out of the capital, President Sanchez was keen to secure a consensus at yesterday’s meeting of regional governments.
There was no consensus and three regional governments, Andalusia, Valencia and Castilla y Leon have already announced they will be introducing curfews in their regions.
The curfew is still considered by experts as the best way of curbing the infection rate and a nationwide restriction on movement at night is expected to be introduced at any time.
