Calasparra will host the VI Feria Ganadera “Villa de Calasparra” ( for rare and threatend regional breeds) which includes the First Technical Day for the “Oveja Montesina” (regional mountain sheep) and an exhibition of native regional breeds in danger of extinction.
The event will be organized by the Town Hall and ARCOM, the regional association of Oveja Montesina stockbreeders.
The programme will be as follows:-
Thursday November 20 in the Casa de la Cultura
Ist Technical Day of the Oveja Montesina of the Murcia Region.
10 – 10.15am Official Opening with Carmen Teodora Morales Cuenca, Director General of Stockbreeders and Fish, and the Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez Fernández.
10.15-11.00am Presentation: New Native Breeds in extinction with Carmen García Frago, Head of the Animal Production Service at the Department of Agriculture and Water.
11.00-11.30am Presentation: The Morpholic Evaluation of the Oveja Montesina in the Murcia region with Maria Dolores Barceló Campoy, Vet with ARCOM.
11.30-12midday Coffee Break
12 Midday to 12.45pm Presentation: The Best Genetic of the Oveja Montesina in Murcia.with Ángel Poto Remacha, Coordinating Researcher with IMIDA.
12.45 to 1.15pm Presentation: Quality Parameters for lamb and mutton with Begoña Peinado Ramón, researcher with IMIDA.
1.15pm Guided Tour of participating stockbreeders in the gardens of the Casa de la Cultura.
2pm Tasting of cordero montesino (lamb) and Murcian Capon.
Friday November 21 in the Casa de la Cultura
10am to 2pm Guided Tour of the winning entry for the pupils of the local primary and secondary schools.
