There have been no
seriously dangerous or emergency situations in Calasparra despite 155 litres of
rainfall per square meter, assured the Mayor of Calasparra speaking on Radio
Calasparra this morning.
“We are very satisfied with the work we have carried out in the last few years
to improve the collection of rainwater in the municipal area, which have
prevented situations and images which we had experienced before. The quantity
of rainfall has tested our new system for collecting and evacuating water,” he
said.
He noted that the Tierra del Sol had been the worst affected local area where,
according to the Civil Protection, various cars had been dragged away by water.
“Apart from some particular situations, such as the rescue of a worker trapped
in a basement, the evacuation of a person from Los Donates for precaution, a
tree falling in the Av. Juan Ramon Jimenez, and some basements which had
flooded, we can say the local area has come through the terrible storms well,”
continued the Mayor.
He also send his condolences to the families of three people in the region who
have died in the flooding and to families who have been affected by the
flooding.
The Met Office have reduced the weather alert to an orange warning for today,
Friday, although the rain is likely to continue.
