READERS LETTER ON RESIDENCY

Just thought I would pass on our recent experience.
We went to get our “Residencia” today having checked at the National Police station in Murcia yesterday (as we were down there) that it is «normal» for people living in Calasparra to go to Yecla.
We arrived in the national police station about 9:15 and were seen almost immediately – no appointment is necessary at this time. The clerk checked both mine and Carol’s paperwork, although she said she did not need the second copy we had prepared.
We had taken the ex-18 form along with copies of our NIE, Spanish National Health document (we buy in at € 60 / month), “Padron” and proof of UK income (around the equivalent of € 800 / month is required) and a passport sized photo.

It then got a little strange,! We were told to take the paperwork to a book shop who would then issue the documents to enable us to pay the € 10.71 each.
(You need to turn right out of the police station and drop down the hill, go straight across the main road and down the opposite side street, the bookshop is on the right about halfway down.)
The guy produces the paperwork and charges you € 1.50 each for photo copying.
Then we went back up past the police station and three roads up on the left to CajaMurcia where you pay.
Then back to the police station to get the “Residencia”.
Amazingly it can be done with minimal Spanish language skills and all within the hour – we couldn’t believe it.
Hope this might be of interest.
