RADIO CALASPARRA INTERVIEWS SALDI ECOLOGICAL PROJECT TODAY

The local radio station, Radio Calasparra, is interviewing Salvador who has the ecological vegetable stall on Calasparra´s Friday market today at 10.30am.
The interview coincides with the stall moving from outside the gates of Cine Rosales to the corner outside the Sangui supermarket.
Salvador explains that the stall has moved in order to make it easier to bring the morning fresh produce to his customers.
“We are up at dawn every Friday morning to pick the vegetables fresh for the market but even then it is impossible to get to the market before the early morning shoppers. Pushing a trolley with cases of produce through crowds of shoppers is an inconvenience for them and for me so we have decided to move to a position with easier access.”
The ecological vegetable stall is one of the few stalls on the market with home produced produce and the only stall which offers certified ecological vegetables.
“Many of the stallholders sell in several markets during the week and the produce that is not sold one day is chilled and put up for sale the next market day. Some produce is bought chilled and then re-chilled several times before it is sold. This not only affects the freshness of the vegetables but their taste.
“Anyone who has bought our vegetables will be able to tell the difference. The flavour is king, a blast from the past, the way vegetables used to taste before mass chemical agriculture took over from the small holder,” he says.
