A 55 year old Calasparrian, who was subject to a restraining order for domestic violence, attacked police officers with a 20 centimetre blade machete when they tried to arrest him in central Calasparra early Sunday afternoon.
The police were called by a resident and by the ex-wife of the attacker when the ex-husband approached the family home with a violent attitude, shouting and attacking a car. When police attempted to arrest him he pulled the machete.
As the police arrived on the scene the man launched himself at the police vehicle and then drew a machete and threatened to stab an officer in the stomach. The man was restrained but two police officers and a Guardia Civil officer were injured in the incident.
He was finally arrested and charged with injuring police officers and death threats to his wife and sent to prison as a preventative measure.
The detainee has four previous convictions for domestic violence and is subject to a restraining order. However, on Sunday, after calling his ex-wife several times he approached the house with a violent attitude and attacked one of his son´s cars which was parked in the street.
