Today, March 15, is the International Day of the Consumer under the slogan: “In Defence of Your Rights, You Don´t Walk Alone.”
Speaking on Radio Calasparra, Esperanza Marin of the local municipal Consumer Rights Service, OMIC, said there had been progress in the field of consumer rights but “there is still much to be done.”
She urges consumers to be responsable and to demand “valid information which is clear and simple at the point of purchase in order to avoid fraud.”
“Complaints by consumers are an important tool by which consumers can claim their rights,” she said, “If the Consumer Complaints Service didn´t exist consumer would be defenceless.”
During 2017 OMIC in Calasparra have assisted 600 people with complaints. Some 488 required assistance with the “clausula suelo” and/or the costs for arranging a mortgage. Some 182 enquired about mobile telephones, electricity and gas supplies, insurance and repairs amongst other matters.
