The Town Hall have voted unanimously for Calasparra to join the Local Mayors’ Pact for local sustainable energy which consists of a compromise to go beyond the European targets for the reduction of CO2 emissions by improving energy efficiency and the production of clean energy.
The objective of the Pact is to put resources in motion within the public administration and businesses to reduce energy consumption and to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases given that the local authorities are capable of reducing energy consumption and the current costs while at the same time improving the quality of life for their citizens, looking after the environment and generating business opportunities.
Murcia thus becomes the first region in Spain where all the local authorities have signed up to this initiative of the European Commission.
