Local white water canoeist, Juan Martínez, took first place in the trials for the World Championship at Seu D`urgell, Foix and Pau and has gained a place representing his country in Slovenia.
Member of the Municipal Canoe Club of Calasparra, 17 year-old Juan is Calasparra´s most successful local sportsperson. He has been training at the national canoe centre in the Seu D`urgell over the last few years.
His successful descent qualifies him for the World Slalom Championsips finals in Solvenia in July.
During the trials he competed against canoeists from 20 countries, some of them olympians, including Jessica Fox who took silver in London.
Thanks to his “magnificent descent” Juan has secured one of three places to represent Spain at the World Championships making his family, his club and the whole town very, very proud. Congratulations!!
