HIGHER ELECTRICITY BILLS SINCE JANUARY

Electricity bills have risen by 12.4% since January this year, according to the Consumer Association, FACUA, which criticises the “opaque” tariff system introduced by central government in October last year.
The Government introduced the new system in an attempt to reduce domestic electricity bills and, in fact, consumers have paid an average of 8.30 euros less this month than the same period last year.
FACUA has demanded that the Government intervene andf establish tariffs that reflect the real cost of electricity.
According to the association´s calculations the average consumer paid 67.62 euros for electricity in January this year compared to 76.01 euros this month: 16% than January last year.
