DRIVER RESCUED FROM IN FLOODS AT LA DAYA

The emergency services rescued a driver trapped in his car in floods while attempting to cross a road at La Daya, Calasparra, during yesterday´s storms.
The driver was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia.
This was just one of the 21 incidents reported in Calasparraa as streets were turned into rivers, in some cases torrents, and 19 litres of rain fell in just 10 minutes.
Calasparra and Moratalla were two of the towns worst hit by the storms in the region yesterday when 70 litres of rain was registered at the Argos reservoir during the afternoon and 67 litres in the main town area, according to statistics from the Segura Water Board.
The majority of the 337 calls received on the 112 service in the region related to flooded underbuilds and roads as well as obstacles on the highways.
At one point La Daya and the Plaza de la Corredera were completely inundated by hailstones that also partly damaged 1500 hectares of soft fruit in Calasparra and Cieza.
One of the worst hit areas was the Valle del Sol urbanisation where a torrential river of water swept along the entrance road to the roundabout. According to a source on the urbanisation some gardens of residences on the lower part of the area, around the Alandalus Bar, were damaged by flooding but no material damage to buildings or persons has been reported.
However, the rain also rendered much of Calasparra town centre impassable  as the main streets, such as the Gran Via, and public areas such as the Plaza de la Corredera and the Plaza de Emilio Piñero Perez were completely flooded. La Daya was also one of the worse hit areas.
The Met Office has extended the Yellow Weather Warning for torrential rain and storms to today, Tuesday.
Please stay safe out there!!!
