CAÑAVEROSA NATURAL PARK UNAFFECTED BY MORATALLA FIRE

The fire in Moratella, which started on Sunday, has been declared “totally stabilized.”
According to information from the technicians the fire “can be described as under control” although the situation is being carefully monitored.
After a quiet night with practically no wind and some humidity there were no active fires just smoke, according to the technicians. However, the situation at Las Minas, Albacete “remains delicate” and work continues to in order to prevent the fire spreading into regional terrority once again.
Some 40 residents from Las Minas have spent their second night in Los Lomas, Calasparra, after being evacuated from their homes.
A fire fighting unit was mobilized to protect the Cañaverosa natural park which was in the direct path of the fire. However, the wind changed the park was saved without any intervention.
The fire has destroyed 1,104 hectares of forests and pines including areas around the Cenajo reservoir and Las Camarillas. A security cordon of some 20 kilometres has been established around Salmerón and Cenajo and the fire services were dampening down the area during the night.
Weather predictions for today give reason for hope as winds of between 10 and 20 kph are forecast. As dawn broke this morning helicopters, 207 soldiers and 33 vehicles resumed their work in the area to ensure the remaining fires are kept under control and others do not reignite.
