CHEAPER CHARGES FOR ROAMING FROM YESTERDAY

The long awaited reduced charges for making telephone calls and using the Internet when travelling in Europe came into affect yesterday with many phone companies offering special deals.
From yesterday companies may charge a maximum of 70 cents per megabyte and, from July 2013, this drops to 45 cents, and is further reduced to 20 cents by July 2014.
Calls drop from a maximum of 35 cents to 29 cents per minute and text messages from 11 to 9 cents.
Anticipating the reductions many companies are offering special deals to travellers with daily rates of between 2 to 6 euros a day. Customers are recommended to check with their phone company for special deals before travelling.
