This morning the Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, and Francisco Selva, Head of the Area of Patrimony and Town Planning for ADIF, signed the contract in the old station building for a 20 year period at a cost of 1,200 euros annually.
Work has already begun on the rehabilitation of the old ticket office to house a short term tourism project.

In November 2021 Calasparra Town Hall and ADIF signed a contract to lease the rails supposing that they would not be desmantled or disappear.
The contract for the restoration of the station and adapting the surroundings for various different proejcts will begin shortly.

Calasparra is the only municipal area in Spain to preserve the complete rail superstructure after the railway line was closed and this was at the petititon of Calasparra Town Hall, assuming that future projects would contemplate the possibilities of transporting passengers.
At this time work has begun on a tourism project called “The Plan of Sustainable Tourism» that allows for the rehabilitation and conservation of the station buildings as well as procuring a tourism proejct for the area.
