A rise in petrol prices from November, approved by the regional assembly, which includes the “centimo sanitiaria” (a cent for the Health Service) will bring 25 million euros in extra revenue for the coffers of the regional government.
The price of petrol will rise by 3.6% to an average of 4.8 euros a litre and deisel will rise by 2.6%.
Although the move was supported by the majority of the ruling Partido Popular, the opposition parties, the PSOE and the United Left, opposed the rise. Neither party believe the Health Service should be funded by “indirect taxes.”
