The Met Office has issued a warning for «extreme heat» in the Murcia region today, Monday, with temperatures expected to reach a massive 45 centigrade.
Most of our readers are used to opening the windows and airing the house during the summer months but today we should follow the example of our Spanish hosts and close our blinds, windows and doors to keep the heat out.
Temperatures should begin to dip tomorrow and gradually we should see temperatures in the early or mid 30´s by the weekend with a possibility of rain.
However, today will be a scorcher and so, once again, the Health Authorities are advising us to avoid going out during the hottest part of the day (between 12 midday and 6pm) and to avoid any physical or sporting activity outside.
Remember to drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and eat light meals.
Remain out of the sun whenever you can if you are outdoors and wear clothes of natural fabrics, light and light colourd, a hat, sunglasses and sun screen.
These are extremely high temperatures and there is little relief during the nights with thermometers remaining at 25 to 27 centigrade. Please take care and watch over vulnerable groups such as the ill and infirm; the elderly; pregnant women and children.
In case of emergency call 112.
