The mandatory requirement to wear masks inside may end of April 12, if health experts give the Government the go ahead.
It was on February 21 that Pedro Sánchez spoke about lifting the last restriction imposed to control the Covid pandemic. However, almost six weeks later, the high incidence of contagions has put a brake on Government plans to introduce the move for the Easter celebrations.
A preliminary date of April 12 has been put forward and the Covid Monitoring Committee will prepare a report on the epidemiological situation
for that date. If it gives the green light a decision is expected to be taken quickly.
In the Committee’s report last week the rate of contagion per head of population was 466.51 per 100,000, nine times more than the 50 cases considered a “normal” level of contagions.
The update from the Committee on Friday, which only reflected the contagion rate in vulnerable people (over 60´s and pregnant women) under the new surveillance system, reported a rate of contagion of 459.27. Hospital admissions are down 3.4% and in intensive care by 4.62%.
Health experts are calling for caution as the incidence among people over 80 years old is rising.
They are also calling for the extension of CO2 meters and HEPA filters in indoor spaces before the obligation to remove masks is lifted
