Areas around San Miguel, widely used by residents of Calasparra to exercise their dogs, have been sprayed to eradicate the processonary.
The product used for this treatment has been authorised by the Ministry of the Environment for use in natural surroundings.
Pet owners are advised to keep their dogs on a lead during this period when the larva of the processionary falls to the ground and could be eaten by pets.
The larva of the processionary is dangerous for pets as its can make them ill.
