The first phase of a national study has demonstrated that five percent of the national population has developed Covid-19 antibodies.
In the Murcia region this drops to two percent.
The first phase of this study consisted of telephoning 35,000 homes, selected randomly and, at the same time, taking samples from the participants in their homes or at medical centres. Provisional results show that samples were taken from 60,903 people.
Phase One consisted of a rapid test for antibodies with a pin prick on a finger. In order to ensure the viability of the results blood tests were taken.
The prevalence of antibodies was similar in men and women; less in babies, children and young people; and stable in older age groups.
Some 83% of the participants who showed a positive test for the virus had also developed antibodies.
In the possible cases the prevalence increased with the number of symptoms. Particularly high, some 43% with symptoms, reported a total loss of taste. Some 2.5%, with antibodies, had no symptoms at all.
In the following phases of the study it will be possible to understand the evolution of the prevalence and any changes in the participants.
