The summer in Calasparra heralds the fiesta season and the month of July, particularly the last two weeks, is dedicated to the local patron Saints Abdon and Senen culminating in their special day of celebrations on July 30.
This year’s festivities begin with the traditional opening speech by a local celebrity in Los Santos Church. The Calasparrian, José Sebastián Velázquez Moya, known as “Pepe del Sabas”, who lives in Murcia but was born and has family in Calasparra, will deliver the speech in honour of the saints on July 14 at 8.30pm.
The programme is currently being finalized but will include events such as the Night of the Migas, the Verbena (traditional country dance) and the “Diana” early morning procession.
The Brotherhood of the Saints has also organized a Paddle Tennis Competition and a 24 hours 7-a-Side Football Tournament. For more information see the blog www.campeonatosdeportivosabdonysenen.blogspot.com.
