Work on installing the pressurised drip irrigation systems in Calasparra has been temporarily halted for environmental reasons but should resume operations next week, according to the Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro,
The installation work has been interrupted due to complaints that they were contravening environmental protection guidelines. The local Farmers and Smallholders Association (el Comunidad de Regantes) has announced it is waiting for the the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in Madrid to give the green light for the resumption of the work.
The Mayor has also announced that 15 documents appertaining to the installation of the new irrigation system demanded by the opposition to the modernisation, ARDEVAS, will be delivered this week and that he will be meeting members of the group. One document required by ADEVAS, which will not be delivered, is a list of the residents who have signed up for the new irrigation system which is subject to data protection.
