Everything
is ready for the annual Charity Fun Run starting from the Plaza de la Corredera
tomorrow, New Year´s Eve, to raise money for the GotasUNICEF (Drops) Project to
provide water for schools in Africa.
The children´s race is at 4pm and the adults at 5pm.
The San Silvestre Fun Run is a New Year´s Eve event all over Spain. The first
San Silvestre was run in the city of San Paolo, Brazil, in 1955. However, the
famous Spanish San Silvestre Vallecana did not arrive until 1965.
The idea for the original event in Brazil came from a journalist, Casper Libero,
who amassed a fortune in the 20th century through his newspaper and
used the idea to promote his product. The event was named after Pope Silvestre
I.
