Boxes to attract bats are the latest weapon in the fight against the plague of mosquitoes attracted by this summer´s high temperatures.
On Sunday August 13 there will be a volunteers day by the river to set the boxes, made by members of the recent work camp here in Calasparra.
Ecologist hope the boxes will attract bats, which will in turn control the population of mosquitoes in and around the river and the rice fields.
Anyone can volunteer to help and there will be a meeting point at the Canoe Club at 8am. Work will finish at 12 midday when there may be an opportunity bathe in the river.
This activity is free of charge and is organized by Proyecto Life + Ripisilvanatura (LIFE13 BIO/ES/1407) with the assistance of ANSE, ecological association. It is part financed by the Town Hall, the local rice cooperatives and the Water Board.
