Maybe it is the result of the spring like weather but the Department of Health reports that flu has arrived in the region much later than usual and the strain is much milder.
Last week some 400 cases were reported compared to 260 the week before: statistics well below the “level of an epidemic,” according to the Department.
However, the increase in the number of cases during the last week suggests that that the incidence of the virus is expanding and may continue to rise during the month of January.
Currently it is the virus A (H3N2), which is more common as opposed to the H1N1 strain which caused the ‘Flu A’ epidemic in 2009.
The majority of people affected in the region are between 27 and 44 years old.
