Calasparra Town Hall has reached an agreement with the one third owner, Francisco Cabellero, to buy his third of the bull ring in Calasparra and permit the fiestas this year.
The negotiations to buy the bull ring, one third owned by each of three heirs, have been ongoing for some time.
Recently, the Town Hall refused an activity licence to hold the fiestas in September due to serious problems with the property, including the collapse of the surgery and operating theatre, plus other imperfections, but offered to buy the property and arrange grants to pay for the work.
Negotiations with eldest brother and third part owner, Joaquim Cabellero, have failed. The other third is owned by their sister, Ascension.
The Mayoress, Teresa Garcia, has announced that as a gesture of good faith she is prepared to sign the authorization for the September bull fights this year as long as a minimum amount of work to guarantee accessibility and safety of the fans is carried out.
All of this is contingent on the other two owners being prepared to sell their parts of the property to the Town Hall in 2022, which would then carry out all the works necessary so that the bull ring can obtain its “activity licence.”
Editors Note
The saga of the bull ring has been going on for years. Most readers are probably opposed to bull fighting, while some others may defend it as a “tradition”.
We are not going to enter into this discussion but feel duty bound to report this saga as it is important local news and live in the hope that, should the bull ring finally pass into the hands of the community here in Calasparra, it will have other uses such as concerts, community activities, horse and/or dog shows and a great etc of possibilities.
