Calasparra Town Hall has lent its support to the environmental group, Ecologists in Action, in their campaign against the oil pipeline, Cartagena-Puertollano, which is projected to pass below the waters of the Cenajo reservoir.
Calasparra joined some 45 local municipal areas opposing the scheme when a motion supporting the campaign was passed in a full Town Hall last Thursday.
The wording of the motion notes that “the Cenajo reservoir is the most important of the water reserves in the Segura basin which provides drinking water and irrigation water for around one million people.
“A petrol spill in this reservoir would have grave social,
economic and environmental consequences for the whole region.”
