TOWN HALL JOINS CALASPARRA STATION PROTEST MARCH

Calasparra Town Hall will support protestors marching in a protest against the closure of Calasparra Station and demanding its re-opening.
The march will start from the Parking at the Sanctuary at 8.30am on Saturday June 14 and finish with a live music at the station.
The Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia and the Mayor of Hellin, Manuel Serena, met yesterday with members of the association «Plaza Nueva» at the old station.
Both Teresa García and Manuel Serena consider this citizen initiative positively and support the claim for reopening the rail link between Calasparra and Albacete. They both agree the importance and the necessity of re-establishing the service that affects so many populations in North West Murca, the Antiplano of Granada, the Segura Sierra and Hellin.
Teresa Garcia has reiterated the importance of re-activating this connection as a form of sustainable transport and as a vital element for tourist projects projected for Calasparra.
The railway connection also forms part of the Obligation to Public Service (OSP) given the importance of the territorial vertebre to prevent depopulation and aid the development of tourism, both Mayors agreed.
The singer, Moy Gomar and the groups, Algo Provisional and Band en Obras will take part in a live concert a the end of the march at Calasparra Station.
Editors Note:
The service from Calasparra station was a direct link with Madrid which was, despite constant assurances to the contrary, terminated when the station closed. A new link to Albacete would offer the opportunity to travel to Albacete by rail and catch the high speed AVE to Madrid. The track in the direction of Murcia has been dismantled to make way for a Green Route.
