Tomorrow, Thursday August 15, is
national fiesta in Spain so expect most shops, businesses and services to be
closed.
August 15 coincides with many regional and local fiestas but, officially, it is
fiesta because it marks the Ascension of the Our Lady of Hope. It was declared
a national fiesta day in 1950 by Pope Pio XII.
Although many people in Spain celebrate different things on August 15 (regional
and local fiestas; the summer; or the harvest) the general consensus is that a
fiesta is a fiesta, whatever the motive.
