Fifteen volunteers collected 50 kilos of rubbish from the banks and surroundings of the River Argos yesterday.
The activity was oranised by the nature action society, ANSE, as part of the LIFE+Ripisilvanatura project with the collaboration of the .local Department of the Environment.
The rubbish was collected from the Cuesta Blanca and the Puente de Hierro areas and then classified.
«Glass bottles formed the majority of the rubbish collected,» said Nerea Martinez, Environmental Officer with ANSE, «It is a shame that some residents abuse public and natural spaces like this.»
Head of the local Department of the Environment, Juan Bernal, appealed for more awareness and commitment from society in gEneral. «Every little gesture counts,» he said.
Also present and representing local government was the Head of Youth, Juan José López; Head of Comunicación, Cristina Ruiz; and Head of Citizen Security, Antonio José Merino.
