Last month will go down in the history books as the driest for the last 15 years and the hottest for the last 50 years according to the state Met Office.
Despite the storms around the beginning of October the temperatures were very high for the time of year and there was very little rainfall during the rest of the month:
Temperatures have averaged 20.2 degrees centigrade: the highest registered in October since 1941.
