The carnival proved to be a great diversión from the financial crisis which is gripping Calasparra as the residents turned out in force on Saturday night to enjoy this extraordinary annual spectacular.
This year, because the participants were required to pass between five control points, the carnival turned into an improvised procession of 25 large groups and four small groups in various outlandish costumes.
This the fifth carnival organised by the Town Hall and it was accompanied by drum beat and rhythm of the music group, Bloco Limón.
Much later the party moved to the Recinta Ferial where there was a comedy show and the prize giving for the best costumes.
First prize went to the group representing a legendary Spanish television quiz programme, 1, 2, 3. The second went to the children who sing the National Lottery “el Gordo” and the third to a group representing Google Maps.
The small groups prize went to an individual entry, Virginia Carmona Villena, who dressed as a peacock.
