Stallholders on Friday’s weekly market in Calasparra have protested against an 80% rise in the charges imposed by the Town Hall.
Calasparra Town Hall has replied to the protests claiming the rise in charges is “in line with the markets in the rest of the región” and states that it is part of the economic plan published earlier this year.
Stallholders selling clothing, textiles and shoes have also complained that the “separation” of the market, with the vegetables and food in the Plaza de los Abastos, has seriously affected their trade.
According to Radio Calasparra the market traders are threatening to strike this Friday. However, NEXOnr has spoken to a reliable source within the stallholders group who admits the protest but denies a planned strike.
NEXOnr will attempt to keep readers informed of developments during the week but our current information is that the market will go ahead as plannned.
