THE FINAL DEATH TOLL FOR CALASPARRA STATION

The final death blow to the future of Calasparra Station has been dealt by neighbouring Cieza’s million euro project to tear up the rails and build a Via Verde.
This move dashes any hopes of the local station reopening despite Calasparra Town Hall´s reluctance to dismantle the rails.
The Cieza Via Verde project,»The Floracion de Cieza,» which will begin in October, is named after the spectacular orchards of cherry blossom in the spring. Calasparra renounced being part of this project announcing plans to build a Via Verde to Hellin, but utilizing the rails with specially adapted bicycles and with the hope of running a tourist train service alongside a Via Verde at a cost of 80,000 euros.
Calasparra Town Hall has already signed an agreement with ADIF to rent the railway infrastructures.
