This August was the hottest in the region for 70 years with temperatures  2.6 degrees centigrade above the seasonal average, according to the State Met Office (AEMET).

The average temperature during August was 27.8 degrees centigrade and there were 20 days during the month when temperatures were above the seasonal average.
The mercury reached a massive 43 degrees on August 1 and this set the tone for the rest of the month. On August 10,11 and 12 the maximums hovered around 42 degrees and the minimums around 25 degrees.
The 21 and 22 and the 24 and 25 of August were the hottest in the Segura valley as the mercury rose above 40 degrees.
The high temperatures were due to a mass of hot air from the Sahara and then by a subtropical cyclone. In the last few days these have been pushed out by a front from the Atlantic which was brought agreeable refreshing lows to the region.
The only rain during the month fell on August 30 and 31 when between 20 and 50 litres of water fell for every square metre
