RISE IN PRICE OF DIESEL

Diesel prices have risen by some 3.9% this month taking the cost to all time historic high of an average of 1,336 euros per litre.

According to information in the last EU Petrol Bulletin petrol prices also rose during the last three weeks of last year by 4.7% selling at 1.358 euros a litre.

The new record price of diesel supersedes the last all time high of 1,329 euros in 2008.
The rise in fuel prices can be partly explained by the devaluation of the euro which has sent the price of a barrel spiraling. Since April the euro has been devalued by some 14% and a barrel of petrol cost around 90 euros at the beginning of this month. However, tensions over possible sanctions against Iran are also affecting the market.
Filling up the average car with petrol, some 50 litres, now costs around 67.9 euros and with diesel costs 66.8 euros.
