Some 102 residents voted in the first ballot of the Citizen´s Postbox (“El buzón ciudadano” ) and 73% chose the project to renew the artifical grass at the Caverina Football Ground.
Residents were asked to choose between the two projects: the other being the completion of the changing rooms and spectators area at the athletics track. Some 26.5% voted for the latter option.
The grass at the Caverina will be renewed before the end of the year.
Ricardo Garcia, counsellor in charge of Residents Particpation said: “We were not expecting a high voter turnout on this, the first occasion………….given that the vote was called at short notice.”
However, he said, he was satisfied with the result and believed residents had started on the road towards participating more in local affairs by using the Citizen´s Postbox to inform the Town Hall of their worries, opinions and suggestions.
