REMINDER: DOGS RESCUE COFFEE MORNING

Another dog found injured and starving near the river and another wandering about at the Station, apparently abandoned and hungry.
Dogs Rescue have no space at their refuge. They neeed foster homes and financial suppor for medical bills.
Seemingly there is no end to the irresponsibility and cruelty of some dog owners in Calasparra.
Last week Dogs Rescue Calasparra appealed for support as they had been indundated with litters of abandoned puppies lately, puppies who need special care and swell the association vet´s bills.
There will be a  Coffee Morning to raise funds on Tuesday May 20 from 11am in the OAPs Club in Calasparra. Donations of cakes and savouries will be welcome as will any items for raffle prizes.
Dogs Rescue Calasparra is run by volunteers and is entirely dependent on financial contributions and donations to take in, care for and seek medical care for the dogs and puppies that people in Calasparra abandon.
This spring has been a particularly hard one for Dogs Rescue as several litters of puppies have been left on the doortstep of the refuge and others have been found abandoned. A mother, seriously injured after being mauled by guard dogs who were loose, without any supervision, has a possible spine injury and has lost the use of her back legs. The vets’ bills for her alone have put a heavy strain on the Association´s limited resources.
The solution for some heartless and irresponsible people in Calasparra who neither chip or operate their dogs, is to abandon the puppies where, hopefully, someone else will take responsibility for them. The law making chips compulsary and allowing dogs to get pregnant illegal (unless you are a registered  breeder) is flagrantly flouted over and over again here in Calasparra.
But the law can´t be enforced unless the authorities know who the culprits are.
If you see a pregnant dog and you know the owner report it to Seprona on 062.
The population of Calasparra is little more than 10,000 inhabitants. Even if every family or resident take in a puppy or an abandoned dog we will reach saturation at some point.
Dogs Rescue also work so hard to find homes for their charges, young, mature and older, in different parts of Spain and in Europe but, again, there is a limit!
There is a habit amongst s0me residents of Calasparra, particularly those with second properties in the countryside, to let their dogs roam free (walk themselves is a common phrase). This is not only illegal, it also facilitates dogs getting pregnant. Of course, these dogs are not chipped so if they are found the owners can´t be held responsible.
We need to step up and support Dogs Recue in any way we can, donations, fund raising, adopting dogs and puppies, but also by by reporting those who flagrantly break the law and leave Dogs Rescue, among others, to live up to the responsibilites of others.
