REINTRODUCING THE LYNX TO CONTROL RABBIT POPULATION

The Lynx may roam the mountain slopes around Calasparra, Moratalla, Caravaca, Yecla and Jumilla again as a method of controlling the rabbit population.
Following an explosion in the population of rabbits the regional government has invested 500,000 euros to evaluate possible areas, the density of the rabbit population, the absence of threats such as poison traps and illegal hunting, the quality of the habitat and connections with areas adjacent to Castilla de Mancha.
Rabbits are the main diet of the lynx, which has been successfully introduced in Castilla de la Mancha.
The aim is to reintroduce the lynx in the Vega Alta del Segura, the area of the river Alhárabe and the river Moratalla.
