Today is the International Day of Consumer Rights and Esperanza Marin, of the Local Consumer Office, advises us to “read the small print.”
Speaking on Radio Calasparra, Esperanza, reminds us to avoid “impulse buying and buy with common sense and sensitivity.”
Prevention is the best tool, she told listeners, referring to the need to read the small print before signing anything.
People using the Consume Office has increased by 35% compared to last year, mainly due to complaint about the “clausulas suelo” which affect mortgages.
Some 47% of complaints referred to banks; 10% to electricity; 8.8% mobile telephones; 8.7% gas; 8.5% insurance; 2% water; and the other 15% of customers complained about the purchase of electrical domestic appliances, Internet, air transport, and purchase of property.
Some 35.840 euros has been returned to Calasparra through the Consumer Office during the past year.
This year on the International Day of Consumer Rights we are reminded of the importance of repairs and the reuse and/or recycling of products to preserve natural resources and cut down on waste.
