Pupils at the local High School, who have been demonstrating since July,
are celebrating today as the region confirms that they study GCE Arts in
Calasparra.
The Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez Fernández and the Head of the regional
Department of Education, Esperanza Moreno Reventós, confirmed during a telephone
conversation, today that a GCE Arts Course will be implanted at the Emilio
Perez Piñero High School.
“This is good news for us to know our pupils can choose their academic future
with total and absolute freedom,” said the Mayor.
Now pupils who want to study GCE Arts do not need to travel to another area.
This victory signals the end of a months of demonstrations by pupils, teachers
and parents against the decision of the region not to permit the GCE Arts
course in Calasparra.
