POLICE TUTOR TO COMBAT BULLYING AND TRUANCY

The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, and the Chief of the local police, Miguel Ángel Mártinez, have introduced a Police Tutor Programme which provides a special police officer who will cooperate with primary and secondary schools to detect and prevent bullying and truancy.
But, according to the Mayor, the programme is much more than this:
“We are going to be very strict about the consumption of drugs and alcohol amongst minors”, he explained. “The programme includes raising awareness and prevention but also aims to erradicate  the sale and distribution of these substances. We will intervene whenever necessary to protect minors who need to know the police are their main ally,” he said.
The Mayor declared he was very concerned  about the rise in the consumption of addicitive substances amongst young people and has called for “common sense.” He recalled the most recent incident of a 12 year old girl who died after consuming alcohol.
For these reasons the Police Tutor will also arrange chats and discussions with parents, teachers and pupils.
The programme aims to erradicate truancy and acts of vandalism; pursue the sale of drugs in the school environment: promote positive activities to avoid conflicts in the community; prevent anti social behaviour; and promote security and road safety.
The police tutor will also aim to avoid and detect violence and abuse and any other forms of bullying, said the local Police Chief.
“We are at the disposition of the Education Centres, AMPAS and parents, but principally we aim to help minors,”he said.
SPECIAL 24 HOUR HELPLINE
He announced a special 24 hour helpline:  696442200.
“This helpline is totally confidential and callers can be reassured  that the police tutor will act with diligence on any matter which is related to the programme,” he said.
