While negotiations continue to secure the closure of San Javier airport, to accommodate the new Corvera airport, passengers have voted it the best airport in Europe for the second time.
San Javier has been voted the best European airport in the category of less than two million passengers in the Airport Service Quality Awards in the gift of the International Airports Council.
It won the prize for first time in 2014 and is one of very few airports to win the prize twice.
The prize is a result of a passenger survey regarding 34 aspects of service including personnel, security, quality of food and waiting timers during security controls.
Notwithstanding the award, Europe continues to insist that the closure of San Javier airport is one of the conditions for opening the new airport at Corvera.
